What We Do

Labor First’s core business is dedicated to exclusively servicing collectively bargained Taft-Hartley and multiemployer benefit plans. Successfully consulting to union benefit plans and their boards of trustees requires a consulting firm skilled in the issues and concerns facing organized labor every day. It requires consultants who are focused on, and experienced in, serving the complex needs of all the parties involved with multiemployer plans. With the recent impact to union benefit plans due to the many regulatory changes surrounding healthcare reform, this unique skill set has been even more magnified.

Having an objective consulting approach means the Labor First team has no stake in providing answers tied to products or pre-packaged solutions. While we draw on the resources and knowledge of the entire firm in our consulting assignments, our advice and guidance is tailored to the particular needs and circumstances of each specific client. By investing our resources and developing our expertise based on the current and emerging needs of each union we work for, we have a long track record of creating durable, innovative and flexible solutions.

With the cooperation of both union and employer Trustees, multiemployer benefit plans serve a unique function by providing retirement, health care, disability and other welfare benefits to workers who might otherwise have no access to such benefits: those who move from employer to employer, especially non-union organizations, are independent of any single employer or who work for small companies that are otherwise unable to offer such benefits.
